History of the Honour Guard |
The Toronto Fire Services Honour Guard was formed in 2013 as a collaborative effort between the TFS and the Toronto Professional Firefighters Association, Local 3888 of the IAFF.
Who we are We are a volunteer group of active Toronto firefighters, who represent Toronto Fire at parades, memorials, fire department funerals, and other appropriate functions. Our distinctive uniform was designed by our members, in keeping with respectful uniform traditions. All members agree to practice regularly, attend functions whenever possible, and adhere to a Constitution and Bylaws, adopted in 2015. We welcome members from any division within the TFS, of any rank and of any experience level. Our members currently range in service from 1+ year to over 35 years. Members receive no personal remuneration or compensation. We are jointly funded by the TFS and the TPFFA, as well as the occasional public donation. The Guard Commanders Several of our members have past or current military service, and act as our Guard Commanders. They not only lead our semi-monthly practices, but also direct operations for the Guard as well as other firefighters at various functions throughout Ontario. The Executive The Guard's day to day functions are managed by an elected Executive. Current members are listed on our `Contact Us` page. Specialized Units Within the Guard, there are special details such as the Weapons, Colours, and Bearer (or Casket) Party. |
